Principles of Naturopathy

Naturopathic medicine traces its origins in North America to the beginning of the last century. It is a comprehensive approach to treating illness and improving overall health. In essence, naturopathic doctors support and stimulate the body's ability to heal itself through the use of natural treatments and remedies.

Naturopathic care embraces the following principles and uses science-based research to provide individualized treatment plans to promote healing. Naturopathic medicine blends centuries-old natural, non-toxic therapies with current advances in the study of health and medicine, covering all aspects of family health from prenatal to geriatric care. Naturopathic physicians cooperate with other medical practitioners referring patients to other practitioners for diagnosis or treatment when appropriate. Naturopathic Doctors study seven treatment modalities: botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, physical medicine and lifestyle counselling. I personally emphasize nutrition, homeopathic remedies, acupuncture, and herbal medicines in my practice.
